Construction Inspector

HB Engineering, Inc. (HBE) is currently seeking Construction Inspectors (TA, TCI, TCIS, TCM) for PennDOT, Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission and Municipal highway, facility & bridge projects throughout Pennsylvania.

 

Ideal candidates will have construction experience including roadway and structure, construction methods, materials, coatings inspections, knowledge of Pennsylvania standards and specifications.

 

HBE also hires those with related experience such as contractor, military and surveyor experience.

 

Requirements:

  • High school diploma, GED, or post-secondary education

  • Read, write, and understand plans and direction given in the English language

  • Ability to do basic math computations for length, area, and volume.

  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a favorable motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration

  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members

  • Able to stand for approximately 3 hours minimum a day up to 8 hours

  • Able to work night shift

  • Able to traverse a construction job site consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material, with a variation of elevation 19\" or less (mud, gravel, rutted ground, etc.)

  • Able to climb and leave a ladder to a platform varying from 6' to 20'

  • Able to wear and operate personal fall arresting apparatus, and work at a height 6' or higher

  • Able to wear HBE required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles, and/or masks while working

 

The following certifications are desirable but not required:

  • BS Civil Engineering

  • NICET Level 2 or higher in Transportation/Highway Construction

  • NECEPT Bituminous field certification

  • ACI/PennDOT Concrete field technician certification

  • Troxler

  • NACE Coatings

  • OSHA

  • PennDOT/PTC CDS certification

  • ECMS experience

  • OSHA 10-Hour certification

 

Responsibilities may include:

  • Perform transportation construction inspections

  • Night work

  • Research PennDOT plans & publications prior to conducting inspections

  • Write daily reports

  • Document contractor's billable work progress

  • Ensure materials are procured from approved suppliers

  • Complete documentation of materials, labor compliance, safety, processing estimates, work orders, and adjustments

Survey Crew Chief

HB Engineering is looking for a motivated individual to join our growing survey department.  Interested candidates must have excellent communication skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work well alone and as part of a team.  Applicants must show strong attention to detail and be willing to work outside in various weather conditions.  In some cases, travel and overnight stays will be necessary depending on project location.


As a Survey Crew Chief, you will work under the direction of the survey manager to perform boundary surveys, obtain field topography and as-built data, and perform construction stakeout.


 Requirements:

  • 2 years minimum of relevant experience

  • Ability to communicate with Survey Manager and Project Managers.

  • Knowledge of conventional and GPS survey equipment, software, and data collectors.

  • Supervise and perform field surveys and calculations for boundary, control, topographic, and construction projects.

  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience a plus.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Willingness to travel out of town with overnight stays.

Director of Surveying

HB Engineering is looking for a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor to lead our growing survey department.  Interested candidates must have excellent communication skills, strong work ethic and the ability to work well alone and as part of a team.  Applicants must show strong attention to detail and be a responsive and responsible team leader & member.

As the Director of Surveying, you will manage all aspects of the survey department, including:  communication with clients, directing field crews, insuring that field crews have all required data for each job, verifying the accuracy of field data, boundary and right-of-way research, right-of-way plan preparation and certification and business development assistance.

 

Requirements:

  • Pennsylvania Professional Land Surveyor’s License

  • Ability to communicate with managers, engineering staff and survey staff.

  • Knowledge of conventional and GPS survey equipment, software, and data collectors.

  • Supervisory experience a plus.

  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D experience.

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Willingness to perform field work, as necessary.

 

Other Desired Qualifications:

  • PLS in other states

  • PennDOT & Turnpike Experience

  • Knowledge of Trimble Access and Trimble Business Center

  • Experience with Lidar/scanning and processing

Entry Level Highway/Transportation Designer

HB Engineering is currently seeking an entry level highway / transportation engineer to join our team in Harrisburg.  The individual hired for this position will work under the supervision of senior staff to perform the following tasks:

  • Performing roadway design tasks, including alignments, plan preparation, cross-sections, drainage design, traffic control and ADA ramp design

  • Assist with traffic engineering tasks, such as traffic impact study preparation and traffic signal plans

 

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field

  • EIT preferred

  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD preferred

  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic
